Twenty years ago, Captain released their debut album This Is Hazelville. Produced by Trevor Horn and released through EMI, the album reached No. 23 in the UK Albums Chart and included the singlesGlorious, Broke and Frontline.
To mark its 20th anniversary, Captain return to the stage for a special one-off show, performing This Is Hazelville in full, from start to finish. For the first time, all eleven songs will be played live in the order they appeared on the record.
Formed in London in the mid-2000s, Captain quickly found an audience for their distinctive mix of widescreen guitar pop, lush arrangements and the unmistakable vocal interplay between Rik Flynn and Clare Szembek. Comparisons ranged from Prefab Sprout and The Beautiful South to The Cure, The Beach Boys and My Bloody Valentine, but This Is Hazelville always occupied a world of its own.
Released in August 2006, the album caught Captain at the beginning of a strange and eventful journey through major-label life, chart success and extensive touring. After many years away from the live stage, the band returned to playing shows in 2024 and have since released their fourth studio album,The Blue Rose.
Twenty years on, it’s back to Hazelville. A rare chance to hear the album performed as a complete work, with a few more recent songs, including material from The Blue Rose, to round out the night.
