Blending poetic storytelling with atmospheric, emotionally charged songwriting, Night Teacher explores themes of transformation, trauma, identity and personal growth.
Her second album, Year of the Snake, released via First City Artists, takes its inspiration from the process of shedding old identities and embracing change. Its standout track, ‘Ecdysis’, uses the imagery of a snake shedding its skin to explore survival and reinvention.
Beyond music, Bechtel works as a trauma-informed teacher of yoga, meditation and poetry, drawing on her own experiences to explore healing and self-discovery through her art.
Praised by Atwood Magazine as “a warm, gritty fever dream of heartbreak, transience, and self-discovery”, Night Teacher has also received recognition from Stereogum, NPR and MAGNET Magazine.
